1908: A biscuit is born
The first Milk-Bone dog biscuits were made by F.H. Bennett Biscuit Company in a small bakery on New York City’s Lower East Side. They were originally called “Maltoid Milk-Bone” treats.
1915: What’s in a name?
The biscuits dropped “Maltoid” to become just the “Milk-Bone” we know and love. The name comes from their original recipe, which included a significant amount of cow’s milk.
1940: Biscuits big and small
Milk-Bone started catering to dogs of all shapes and sizes by offering biscuits in three size varieties: small, medium and large.
1957: Making moves
The brand outgrew its original NYC plant and moved to a new location in Buffalo, NY. Milk-Bone dog treats are still produced there to this day.
1962: More flavors to savor
Milk-Bone Flavor Snacks® biscuits were introduced nationally. The original version included six exciting flavors in each box: milk, meat, vegetable, cheese, bone and liver.
1977: Fortified and satisfied
We began fortifying our dog biscuits with added vitamins and minerals — 12 to be exact!
1997: Sharing the care
Milk-Bone began a partnership with Canine Assistants® to provide treats for service dogs around the world.
2008: Celebrating our centennial
Milk-Bone hit triple digits. To commemorate our 100th birthday, we launched a year-long “Make a Milk-Bone Moment” contest to find our first spokesdog and made a doghouse entirely of Milk-Bone dog biscuits.
2019: A wag-worthy achievement
The Milk-Bone manufacturing facility in Buffalo, NY, achieves a gold level TRUE Zero Waste Certification.
2022: Our four-legged fan club debuts
The Cleveland Browns announced The Barking Backers, presented by Milk-Bone. It’s the team’s very first fan club for dogs and dog parents, and you can sign up to receive exclusive items and access to members-only events during football season.
